Eti Alüminyum: 37,900 saplings for National Afforestation Day

Eti Alüminyum Plants 37,900 Saplings for National Afforestation Day

Combining sustainable mining with environmental responsibility, Eti Alüminyum planted a total of 37,900 saplings in the Bayavşar and Karabulak sites as part of the November 11 National Afforestation Day. With this step, the company contributed to both the preservation of biodiversity and the creation of new carbon sink areas that will offset approximately 490 tons of carbon emissions annually.

Eti Alüminyum, one of Turkey's leading producers in the aluminium sector, carried out an extensive afforestation event at the Bayavşar Mining Site and Karabulak Site under the leadership of Chairman Ekrem Cengiz and Vice Chairman Şaban Cengiz.

As part of the afforestation efforts, 16,400 saplings were planted at the Bayavşar Mining Site and 21,500 at the Karabulak Site. High ecological diversity was ensured by planting various species, including almond, cypress, aronia, plane tree, and horse chestnut, as well as Syrian juniper, alder, oak, mulberry, catalpa, rosehip, and wild medlar.

ANNUAL CARBON EMISSIONS OF 220 VEHICLES WILL BE OFFSET

This comprehensive work by Eti Alüminyum not only created new green spaces but also contributed to the fight against climate change by increasing the region's carbon sink capacity. It is estimated that approximately 490 tons of carbon will be sequestered from the atmosphere annually as the planted trees grow. This amount represents a carbon sink capacity equivalent to the annual carbon emissions of approximately 220 vehicles.

In addition to the afforestation efforts, special areas were created at the sites where endemic species will be cultivated. These zones were designed to protect natural life, support genetic diversity, and ensure the long-term effects of ecological rehabilitation remain permanent.

'Acting in Harmony with Nature is More Than Just a Responsibility'

Mehmet Arkan, General Manager of Eti Alüminyum, stated the following regarding the efforts: "Acting in harmony with nature while carrying out our mining activities is not just a responsibility for us; it is part of our corporate culture. Each sapling is a symbol of our commitment to the future as much as to the environment. At Eti Alüminyum, we have made it a fundamental principle to return the resources the earth provides back to the earth. The afforestation work we carried out on November 11 is a concrete reflection of this approach. We will continue our efforts with determination to leave a more livable environment for future generations."
